IBB’s Son Rejects Tinubu’s Appointment – Dele Momodu Shares Letter

Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military leader Ibrahim Babangida, has declined a recent federal appointment offered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The rejection was communicated through a formal letter, which was shared by journalist and political commentator Dele Momodu on his social media platforms.

In the letter, dated July 21, 2025, Muhammed Babangida expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him but stated that he would not be accepting the appointment. He emphasized his commitment to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership and expressed readiness to support national development in other capacities where his expertise may be of service.

Dele Momodu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), lauded Muhammed Babangida’s decision, referring to it as rejecting a “Greek gift.” He shared the letter on Instagram, highlighting the significance of the rejection in the current political climate.

The appointment, which was among several announced by President Tinubu, had sparked discussions and speculations. Some political analysts viewed the rejections as a signal of discontent within certain quarters of the political elite regarding the administration’s strategies and appointments.

The ADC has also criticized President Tinubu’s approach, alleging attempts to “buy” Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party’s spokesperson condemned the appointments as politically motivated and aimed at consolidating power in the region.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Muhammed Babangida’s decision not to accept the appointment adds to the ongoing discourse on governance, political affiliations, and the dynamics of power in Nigeria.
