Muhammed Babangida Accepts BOA Chairmanship, Thanks President Tinubu

Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Babangida, has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA). This announcement comes after reports circulated suggesting he had declined the position.

In a statement released on Monday, July 21, 2025, Babangida expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust and confidence placed in him. He described the earlier reports of his rejection as false and malicious, aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the image of the administration .

Babangida emphasized his readiness to serve and contribute to the nation’s development, particularly in the agricultural sector, which is pivotal to Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda .

His appointment is part of a broader effort by President Tinubu to strengthen leadership across key government institutions. Babangida, 53, brings a wealth of experience, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also completed an Executive Programme on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002 .

The Bank of Agriculture plays a crucial role in supporting agribusiness and rural development across Nigeria, and Babangida’s leadership is expected to drive reforms and enhance the institution’s impact on the nation’s agricultural landscape.
