Akure, Nigeria — August 4, 2025 — Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has honored Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin with a ₦30 million cash gift and a house in Sunshine Estate, Oba-Ile, Akure, in recognition of her outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria clinched their record-extending 10th title.
Acknowledging Excellence
Governor Aiyedatiwa presented the awards during a civic reception held in Akure to celebrate Ondo State indigenes who contributed to the Super Falcons’ success in Morocco. Demehin, hailing from Ilaje Local Government Area, played a pivotal role in the team’s defensive lineup throughout the tournament.
The governor commended Demehin as a “shining example of talent, discipline, and resilience,” emphasizing that her achievements serve as an inspiration for young athletes in the state.
Recognizing Support Staff
In addition to Demehin, Governor Aiyedatiwa recognized two other Ondo indigenes for their contributions: Mary Akinsola, the team’s media officer, and Mary Oduboku, the team’s secretary. Both were awarded ₦15 million each for their vital roles in the Super Falcons’ triumph.
Commitment to Sports Development
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to sports development and youth empowerment in Ondo State. He pledged continued investment in young talents and the creation of enabling environments for their success. Additionally, the governor expressed support for the Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, aiming to facilitate their return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
