Abuja, Nigeria – Tragedy struck the Nigerian media industry as Somtochukwu Christelle “Sommie” Maduagwu, a 29-year-old presenter with Arise News, was killed during a robbery attack at her apartment in Katampe, Abuja, in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.
What Happened
The robbers reportedly gained access to her apartment building around 3:00 a.m., overpowering security. In a bid to escape, Sommie attempted to flee through her balcony — believed to be on the third floor — and suffered fatal injuries from the fall.
Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, eyewitnesses claim she was denied immediate treatment because she lacked a police report. She died shortly after.
A security guard on duty was also reportedly shot dead during the attack.
