Super Eagles Climb Four Spots to 41st in Latest FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have moved up four places to 41st position in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola World Rankings released on Thursday, marking a positive step forward for the three-time African champions.

The rise comes after a string of impressive performances in recent international fixtures, including crucial wins in the World Cup qualifiers and friendly matches. The team’s upward movement also places them 6th in Africa, ahead of several continental rivals.

FIFA’s latest ranking reflects Nigeria’s improving form under head coach Finidi George, who has emphasized discipline, tactical balance, and a renewed sense of teamwork in recent outings. The Eagles’ victories not only earned valuable ranking points but also restored confidence among fans who had grown increasingly critical after earlier setbacks.

“This is a good sign. It shows that the team is heading in the right direction,” said former international and football pundit, Daniel Amokachi. “But staying consistent is what really matters. Rankings are earned on the pitch.”

Morocco maintained their status as Africa’s top-ranked team, sitting at 13th globally, followed by Senegal (17th), Egypt (31st), and Tunisia (35th). Nigeria’s movement brings them closer to the top five on the continent, strengthening their chances ahead of upcoming AFCON qualifiers and World Cup campaigns.

On the global stage, Argentina retained their No. 1 spot, followed by France, Brazil, England, and Belgium rounding out the top five.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) welcomed the development, describing it as “a reflection of the team’s hard work and commitment.” In a brief statement, the federation assured that efforts would continue to ensure the Super Eagles maintain their upward trajectory.

“Our goal is not just to climb the rankings but to build a team capable of competing with the best in the world,” an NFF spokesperson said.

The new ranking gives Nigeria a morale boost ahead of their next round of qualifiers and friendly matches, which are expected to further shape the team’s preparation for major tournaments.
