Dele Momodu, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him not to “kill democracy in Nigeria” . This caution comes on the heels of Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, a move that has been widely criticized as “anti-democratic”.
Momodu, who was a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, expressed his disappointment and embarrassment at the president’s decision, given Tinubu’s past contributions to the fight for democracy in Nigeria. He emphasized that this move is a far cry from the democratic ideals that Tinubu once championed.
The PDP chieftain accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of intimidating the opposition, warning that this tactic will not guarantee Tinubu’s re-election. Instead, Momodu advised the president to focus on doing his job well, as this is the only way to ensure a second term.
