Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, has revealed that the late Ayo Adebanjo played a crucial role in Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential election victory in Lagos State. Abure made this statement while paying tribute to Adebanjo, the late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere.

Adebanjo’s Contribution to Labour Party’s Success
Abure credited Adebanjo’s troubleshooting efforts for the party’s massive success in the 2023 general elections. He recalled that whenever crises arose, Adebanjo would summon him to Lagos to discuss and resolve issues amicably. According to Abure, Adebanjo’s interventions significantly contributed to the party’s strong performance, particularly in Lagos.
Abure’s Tribute to Adebanjo
Abure praised Adebanjo’s dedication to democracy and the rule of law, saying, “I learned a lot from Pa Adebanjo personally, that culture of resistance, defending what is right, defending democracy and the rule of law, I learned it from him.” He also commended Adebanjo’s role in mobilizing Nigerian youths during the 2023 general elections, which Abure believes was a turning point in the country’s history ¹.
