Governor Fubara Returns to Port Harcourt Amidst Warm Reception

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt following his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu. The governor arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, after a six-month suspension that began on March 18, 2025. His return comes a day after the suspension was lifted, allowing for the resumption of democratic governance in the state.

Upon his arrival, Governor Fubara was greeted by a large crowd of jubilant supporters who had gathered at the VIP wing of the airport to welcome him back. The atmosphere was one of celebration as the governor made his way through the crowd, acknowledging the warm reception from the people of Rivers State.

The suspension of Governor Fubara and other state officials was prompted by a political crisis that disrupted governance and budget approvals. President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency to restore order and prevent potential anarchy in the oil-rich region. With the lifting of the emergency rule, Governor Fubara’s return signifies the restoration of democratic leadership in Rivers State.

Following his arrival, Governor Fubara proceeded to the Government House, where he is expected to address the state and outline plans for moving forward. His return marks a new chapter in the state’s political landscape, with hopes for renewed stability and progress.
