Jigawa Government to Upgrade 204 Rural Health Centres with Modern Facilities
Dutse, Nigeria – In a major boost to healthcare delivery, the Jigawa State Government has announced plans to upgrade 204 rural health centres across the state with modern medical facilities. This initiative is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services for residents in underserved communities.

The announcement was made by state officials as part of Governor Umar Namadi’s broader agenda to strengthen the primary healthcare system and reduce the burden on secondary and tertiary medical institutions. According to the government, the upgrades will include the provision of modern medical equipment, renovation of existing structures, and enhanced staffing for efficient service delivery.
Speaking on the development, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Health emphasized the importance of rural healthcare in achieving universal health coverage. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to quality medical care.
“This upgrade is not just about infrastructure; it’s about saving lives. Our people in rural areas deserve the same standard of healthcare as those in urban centres,” he said.
The project will be executed in phases, with priority given to centres located in high-need areas. Facilities will be equipped with solar power, clean water supply, maternal and child health units, and digital record-keeping systems to ensure efficient service delivery and continuity of care.
Community leaders and healthcare workers across Jigawa have welcomed the move, describing it as a long-overdue investment in the health and well-being of the people. Many believe that the upgrades will help reduce maternal and child mortality, improve immunization coverage, and provide better management of common diseases.
This initiative also aligns with the federal government’s push to strengthen primary healthcare as the backbone of Nigeria’s health system. Jigawa’s proactive approach is expected to set a benchmark for other northern states facing similar rural healthcare challenges.
Governor Namadi’s administration has promised close monitoring and transparency throughout the implementation process, assuring citizens that funds will be used efficiently to achieve tangible results.
As work begins on the 204 centres, hopes are high that this investment will lead to lasting improvements in the health outcomes of millions of Jigawa residents—particularly in hard-to-reach communities that have long been neglected.
