NBA Promises Free Legal Support for Ibom Air Passenger Stripped and Detained

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has stepped forward to offer free legal assistance to Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger who was controversially stripped and detained following an incident on a flight from Uyo to Lagos.

Comfort Emmanson was reportedly prevented from disembarking after she refused to switch off her mobile phone, which she had placed on flight mode. The disagreement escalated, leading to her being forcibly stripped by security operatives and subsequently detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. She was also banned for life from flying with Ibom Air and placed on the Airline Operators of Nigeria’s no-fly list.

Reacting to the incident, the NBA condemned the treatment meted out to Emmanson, emphasizing the need for upholding human rights and dignity, regardless of the situation. The association has pledged to provide her with free legal representation to ensure justice is served and that her rights are protected throughout the legal process.

In a statement, the NBA stressed that no individual should be subjected to humiliation or unlawful treatment, and the rule of law must prevail in all circumstances. They further urged relevant authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure accountability.

The NBA’s intervention has been widely welcomed by human rights advocates and members of the public who have expressed concern over the perceived abuse of power and the apparent selective application of justice in the case.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the NBA’s support is expected to play a critical role in safeguarding the passenger’s rights and setting a precedent for fair treatment in similar cases across Nigeria.
